Formosa Plastics Grant for New Tractor

Formosa Plastics provided a $16,000 grant to Sundown Island, for a tractor to be used to maintain the rookery just off of Port O'Connor.  A new John Deere tractor was purchased to help clear parts of the island, to make fire ant treatment easier, and as a way of hauling heavy materials for nesting platforms to the center of the island. The tractor got its first workout during the October 14th workday.  Approximately 50 new trees were carried by the tractor to the center of the island, and two paths were cleared to run additional plastic pipe from the new fresh water well.  In addition an area around the windmill was cleared to make maintenance chores easier.
