How can you help?

Please join us in protecting and improving Sundown Island Sanctuary.  We welcome volunteers, suggestions, donations, and all other kinds of help.

Volunteer

Several times a year, volunteers gather to prepare the island for breeding season.  If you are interested in helping, send an e-mail to the warden, Chester Smith (popsbirds@aol.com) and tell him how you would like to help.  Also see the link on workday schedules.

Tax-deductible gifts

We would be very grateful and careful to put your money to good use.  Checks can be made payable to the National Audubon Society Sanctuaries Program and sent to:

Contributions of goods or services

Ongoing Sundown Island projects include building several fresh water ponds, nesting stands, running PVC pipe from the well to the ponds, killing fire ants (we use Logic Fire ant killer), dredging to provide fill for the island, and planting native trees and shrubs.  Your help with any of these projects, by donating services or materials would be greatly appreciated.  Contact Chester Smith for more information (popsbirds@aol.com) or 361.983.2903 (Port O'Connor) or 281.427.4902 (Baytown)
